Statement on Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals DACA Ruling
Today, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals released a ruling that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program is unlawful, sending it back to the U.S. District Court in Texas while allowing current DACA recipients, or Dreamers, to remain. Although this provides temporary relief for Dreamers and their families, a legislative fix is needed more than ever. Continuing to avoid doing so means families and entire communities who have built their lives here remain in fear and uncertainty about the future. Dreamers are our neighbors, friends, educators, colleagues, & more. When everyone living in a community can fully participate, we all benefit.
We call on Congress to secure full belonging for essential members of our communities & enact permanent legislation for Dreamers to stay.
