Welcoming Week Invitation: Learn about Municipal ID & Spanish Driving Laws Course & U Visas

September 9, 2022 - 10:00 am

Arkansas United (AU) is an organization committed to fulfilling the economic potential of Arkansas through bridge building among immigrants, public officials, and service providers. Since 2015, Arkansas United has been proud to participate in national “Welcoming Week.” In a week-long celebration of immigrants and refugees, “organizations and communities bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.” AU invites you to join us in saving this year’s Welcoming Week dates, September 9th through 16th and learning more about Welcoming America and how to get involved here!

As our contribution to our state’s celebration of “Welcoming Week,” Arkansas United and our members would like to cordially invite local government officials, police and sheriff departments, and other interested stakeholders to join us in back-to-back Zooms at the start and end of “Welcoming Week,” to learn about three popular local programs and to join us for a conversation about expansion and replication.

On Friday, September 9th, from 10-11 AM, leaders from the cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock as well as the AU Legal Department will host a virtual panel discussion on municipal identifications, Spanish driving law classes and

U Visa support. AU Executive Director, Mireya Reith, will facilitate a Q & A after the panel to discuss interests and next steps for communities ready to explore extending these programs to their cities, towns, and counties.

On Friday, September 16th, also from 10-11 AM, Lieutenant Kendall Cole from the Little Rock Police Department will host a virtual Training of Trainers for representatives of police and sheriff departments and/or community navigators willing to replicate, this fall, Spanish driving law classes in their respective communities.

To RSVP for the zoom links email [email protected].

AU has been proud to help coordinate the issuing of over 35 Welcoming Proclamations by local Arkansas Mayors over these last several years. This year, AU is looking to increase the number of Welcoming Proclamations! Please see the attached “Welcoming Week Proclamation” template. We hope you will join us in our excitement and commitment to fulfill the intentions of those proclamations through the exploration of programs that will improve the safety, security, and overall well-being of all Arkansans. We look forward to starting a deeper collaboration with you and your communities this September 9th!
