Carver Hills 5K Run/Walk

Carver Hills is a neighborhood in Doraville, one that has the unique distinction of being a historically African American community. When first arriving in Doraville, General Motors purchased their land from Black landowners. To help those families relocate, a neighborhood was created. Created in 1949 and sitting on 150 acers, Carver Hills was home to many Black families.

60 years later and much of this neighborhood changed. Much of the land has since been bought, sold, and redeveloped. I-285 runs directly through the center of the neighborhood’s original footprint. Today, only one of the original streets remains.

The City of Doraville’s Celebration Committee has chosen to recognize and celebrate with this neighborhood in a 5k run/walk event. The funds raised from this event will go to the purchase of a plaque recognizing the neighborhood and it’s significant history.
