Migration through Maps: A Cartographic Overview of American Immigration
Otis Library will host the program “Migration through Maps: A Cartographic Overview of American Immigration” on Monday, September 12, at 5:30pm in the Community Room. Professor Francis M. Coan of Tunxis Community College will present this free program. Through the use of a series of maps, supplemented by statistics and a brief discussion of migration push and pull factors as well as public policy (past and current), this presentation provides an overview of American immigration patterns and trends from the arrival of the first inhabitants to the present day.
Professor Coan, the great-grandson of Irish immigrants, was born and raised in Bristol, CT. He holds a B.A. in Geography and M.A. in History from Central CT State University, and a Ph.D. in History from the UCONN. He has taught history, American government, and geography at Tunxis Community College for the past 31 years.
Otis Library is hosting this program as part of Welcoming Week 2022.
