Welcoming America is pleased to announce metro Atlanta as the first major metro area to create and implement a regional welcoming plan. The strategic plan which outlines 59 recommendations, was developed with input from over 200 people over the course of three years. The reveal of the plan, as well as the announcement of seven municipalities that are adopting it (Atlanta, Brookhaven, Decatur, Doraville, Clarkston, East Point, Norcross), was made at the One Region Launch event on August 23, 2018 in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
According to Jordyne Krumroy, the Regional Manager with Welcoming America, “The regional welcoming plan was developed in response to the changing tides of how people live their lives in the metro region. As people traverse city and county lines, it was clear that no matter where someone goes to or comes from, cultural and structural environments must support inclusion.”
“The plan is a starting point—a roadmap that points us toward a more inclusive and prosperous region. Its success will only be possible with the involvement and support of Atlantans from all walks of life. As a global nonprofit organization headquartered in Decatur, GA, Welcoming America knows that the success of metro Atlanta has already and will continue to inspire similar efforts across the country, and even the globe,” said Rachel Peric, Welcoming America Executive Director.
The One Region Initiative is made possible in part by our presenting Corporate Sponsor Slalom Consulting.
About the One Region Initiative
The One Region Initiative seeks to create an inclusive metro Atlanta region in which all people, including immigrants and refugees, have the opportunity to reach their greatest potential, engage with the larger community, and fully contribute their talents – expanding prosperity and well-being for all. The program has gained the solid commitment of local government, business leaders, community organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, and long time residents to create and adopt welcoming practices. It is led by Welcoming America and supported by the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and the Atlanta Regional Commission.
