Welcoming Week at the YMCA of Greater Omaha
Visit your Omaha Y branch to sample teas from around the world at the coffee station and take a peek at their Welcoming Week Map Project! Staff will be wearing their welcoming spirit for all to see with the Y’s Welcoming Week shirt, featuring the word ‘welcome’ in many different languages. And they’re making a cookbook! Submit a recipe from your heritage to be a part of the YMCA Welcoming Week Community Cookbook.
We believe our communities are stronger when everyone feels welcome and we work together for the common good. Created by YMCA of the USA’s national partner Welcoming America, Welcoming Week, which takes place each year in September, celebrates the growing movement of communities that fully embrace newcomer immigrants. It’s a chance for neighbors – both immigrants and U.S.-born residents – to get to know one another and celebrate what unites us as a community!
While Welcoming Week will look different this year in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, this opportunity to bring neighbors together in a spirit of unity remains critically important as we seek to build bridges and heal communities suffering from the effects of systemic racism and discrimination.
